How Mrs. B’s Handmade Soaps began:
My son started having issues with severe eczema at three months old. By the time he was five years old, he had still never slept an entire night through, due to his itching. He would scratch until he bled. I would wake two to three times per night, to him calling for me, or his standing in my doorway bleeding, from scratching.
We tried everything to help him. We tried changing his diet, every over the counter product on the market, and every prescription medication we could, with little relief. After his pediatrician suggested that it may be caused by allergies, we moved to a home with no carpeting, and limited the amount of time he spent outside playing. I hadn’t worn perfume since he was a baby and washed everything in “free & clear” unscented products. I changed his bathing habits, his bedding, even what I cleaned with. At this point, he was getting two allergy shots per week & I was putting prescription steroidal topical ointment on him regularly. His skin would be "better" from time to time, but never clear or without issues.
At the time, I worked as a Research Assistant in a Medical Research Laboratory. After one particularly bad night of being up all night with him, trying to comfort him as he cried from being itchy, in pain, & not able to get comfortable, I had to get ready for work. At that moment, I felt like a failure as a mother. Even though I worked in the health science field, I could do nothing to help my son. Through teary eyes, I told my husband “What is the use in working in science? I can’t even help my own son!” It was that morning that I decided to dedicate my life to finding a way to help him.
The next thirteen months were spent reading every book, magazine article, online blog, scientific study, & scientific published paper about skin care that I could find. I looked at natural skin treatments from different cultures around the world, diets, supplements, etc. If it was out there, I had read it. My research led to my decision to make an all natural, chemical free soap for him. I grew an organic pumpkin patch & made soap from the pumpkins, blending the pumpkin with a special mix of plant-based oils proven to be nourishing to the skin. Pumpkins have many benefits. Such as, the Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Amino Acids and blend of Vitamin A and C work together to boost Collagen production.
After only the first bath we could feel a difference in his skin! Within nine days HIS SKIN WAS COMPLETELY CLEAR for the first time in his life!
His skin had gone from painful, red, hard and dry, to soft and pain free! I couldn't believe how fast natural handmade soap had helped him. His skin continues to be problem free now, years later. He no longer gets allergy shots. He no longer uses topical steroids. He plays outside as much as he wants & eats what he wants. He leads a typical life.
Since then, I’ve made it my mission to help people with Eczema, Psoriasis, Skin Sensitivities, & Acne try to find relief through formulating natural plant-based products.
